Doro’s Holiday Gift Guide: For the Gals

Holiday season is just around the corner (like legitimately around the corner) and giving gifts is one of my love languages (in addition to ergonomic furniture, oat milk flat whites, quality time, “text me when you’re home safe,” and acts of service - let me stop before this turns into an extension of my Hinge profile, yikes), so I wanted to put together a gift guide for you all based on trends I’ve seen and as always, my personal experiences with products. This gift guide is for the amazing gals and women in your life, but may be appreciated by folks of all genders!

Truth be told, I’m not sure if this is a gift guide or an extension of my running wish list and favourites… no harm, no foul. This guide solely contains material goods and no experiences.

This list of holiday gift ideas is organized based on the level of your relationship with the human in your life, with 1 being an acquaintance and 10 being your significant other or a best friend. From almost lipstick to a beaded wristlet keychain to a mini diamond tennis bracelet, there’s something for everyone.

SLOANE AND BLAKE SILICONE BEADED WRISTLET KEYCHAIN ($18)

One of my best friends, Tiffani, bought a silicone beaded wristlet keychain and another bestie and I immediately asked here where she bought it from. We loved the look, size, and fidgetability of the keychain from Sloane and Blake, a local vendor in Vancouver. It’s a step up from a lanyard (which you probably received as part of a corporate onboarding package) or a clunky set of keys and allows you to inject some personality into your daily routine, with the added flexibility of being able to slip the keychain around your wrist, hold it, or clip it to your bag. To top things off, Tiffani surprised us with our very own beaded wristlet keychains out of the blue so we now have a matching set! Triplets!

RIFLE PAPER CO BOOK CLUB PORCELAIN MUG ($27)

If you’re anything like the typical corporate millennial, you’ll likely have 3-5 beverages at your desk at any given time: morning coffee, water, something “fun” to drink (aka something fizzy or sugary), and coffee #2 because you were deep in a PowerPoint deck and forgot to finish your first coffee. As a semi-retired bookworm (sad, I know, but it’s impossible to juggle with work, pilates, and other areas of my life), this porcelain mug featuring literary classics stole my heart as a reminder of everything I’d love to (re)read.

The Ordinary Brow and Lash Peptide

THE ORDINARY BROW AND LASH PEPTIDE ($16)

Truthfully, I wasn’t sure if this would turn out to be a gimmick but I’m pleasantly pleased by how full and healthy my lashes look after one month of use. This serum enhances your lash and brow growth - apply it twice a day along your lashline and brows.

LANEIGE LIP SLEEPING MASK INTENSE HYDRATION WITH VITAMIN C ($29)

The holy grail of lip sleeping masks and frequently duped. This lip mask is extremely hydrating and smells like candy… what’s not to love? As someone with incredibly chapped lips, I will apply a thin layer of Vaseline on my lips and then use the lip mask for that extra moisturizing touch.

CLINIQUE ALMOST LIPSTICK - BLACK HONEY ($28)

This is a cult classic that looks beautiful on any skin tone. It’s easy to apply, hydrating, and buildable, which I love. A quick swipe goes a long way in tying a look together, whether it’s a first date at a third wave coffee shop or a weekday evening stroll at your local Winners. (These are practical use cases from yours truly.)

We have to romanticize our lives somehow, right?

KEURIG K-MINI SINGLE SERVE K-CUP POD COFFEE MAKER ($99 - on sale for $69)

I’m an espresso gal through and through, but sometimes you just want a cup of coffee, just for one. If you’ve ever watched Nadiya’s Time to Eat (Nadiya Hussain, Great British Bake Off winner in 2015), her kitchen is a reflection of her personality: warm, bright, and full of colourful appliances. A pastel yellow Kitchenaid stand mixer? Say no more. This Keurig is an ode to adding some personality to your appliances, while taking up minimal counter space. For the less adventurous folks who don’t want a dusty pink coffee maker in their kitchen, this beauty is also available in black, green, grey, and a stunning light blue. Sprint, don’t walk.

BLONDO HAILLIES LEATHER LUG BOOT ($190)

This is my favourite lug boot for the Vancouver rain and snow as it is waterproof, made with a leather upper, and has a 1.25" heel. It fits slightly snug so I would recommend sizing up 1/2 a size to accommodate winter socks. This boot is so comfortable, and easy to dress up or down! I’ve paired it with a mom jean, vegan leather pant, and a mini skirt + sheer tights.

The boot is available from a few different retailers with varying sale prices (at time of posting), so I am linking them here for your convenience: Steve Madden, Naturalizer, and Nordstrom.

OAK + FORT STRAIGHT LEG VEGAN LEATHER PANT ($108 - on sale for $72)

I am obsessed with these pants as they are so flattering and can be dressed up with a heeled bootie or dressed down with a sneaker. As I stand at a staggering 5’2”, they are a perfect cropped length and hit right at the ankles. Pair with a turtleneck, oversized blazer, and diamond studs, and you’re basically a style icon. What’s not to love?

RING CONCIERGE MINI DIAMOND TENNIS BRACELET ($1298 USD)

If you’re looking to gift a classic, timeless piece of jewelry, a diamond tennis bracelet is the move. The price of a tennis bracelet will vary based on the total carat weight, but Ring Concierge’s mini diamond tennis bracelet is the perfect way to incorporate sparkle into your life without breaking the bank at approximately 1.16 carats.

LE LABO YLANG 49 EAU DE PARFUM ($112-$370)

This is at the end of the list as I find scents incredibly personal and particular - they tell a story and serve as an extension of your brand and style. My latest obsession has been finding the perfect fragrance. Le Labo’s Ylang 49 is slightly contradictory as it straddles the line between floral and dark; it leads with pua noa noa (gardenia from Tahiti), followed by patchouli, oakmoss, vetiver, sandalwood, and benjoin. It’s warm and sexy and if I may say so myself, the perfect autumn/ winter scent.
